Look Good Feel Better Program

ICON is proud to be a sponsor and active volunteer of the Look Good Feel Better Program since 2003.

The Who:
  • Launched in 1992, Look Good Feel Better is a national, non-profit program committed to helping women take control of the appearance related effects of cancer and its treatment.
  • In an effort to give back to the community that supports its industry, this unique program was founded, and is supported primarily by, the member companies of the Canadian Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association, as well as through various external sponsorships. The program does not compete for research dollars, nor does it receive government grants. Look Good Feel Better is a registered charity under BN 13374 0316 RR0001.

The What:

  • A free 2-hour hands-on workshop (Signature 12-Step Program), complete with a valuable complimentary cosmetic and personal care kit. At the workshop women with cancer learn simple cosmetic techniques, hair alternatives, nail and skin care and cosmetic hygiene, to help them manage the appearance related effects of cancer and its treatment. The workshops are led by a total base of 1800 volunteers, all of who are industry trained cosmetic advisors, and hair alternatives specialists, that generously donate their time and expertise. Since its inception, Look Good Feel Better has delivered the workshop to over 50,000 women.
  •  It is non-medical in that it does not in any way interfere with a participants’ medical treatment or replace professional medical advice in any way.
  • It is brand-neutral in that no brands, products, salons or services are endorsed during a workshop even if a cosmetic advisor is an employee of a cosmetic company, salon or self-employed.

The Why:

  • For many women, the appearance related effects of cancer and its treatment can be as devastating as the diagnosis itself. As a result, the Look Good Feel Better Program was created from the concept that, if a woman with cancer can be helped to look good, chances are she will feel better too, and this improved self image will help her face cancer and its treatment with greater confidence.
  • The workshops also provide a safe and supportive environment where women benefit from the support and shared experiences of other women with cancer.

The When:

  • The Program is offered at 100 hospital and cancer care facilities across Canada. Visit ‘Workshop Locator’ at www.lookgoodfeelbetter.ca for a complete workshop schedule.
